When I had my MINI, it developed a crack at the inlet end of the catalytic converter. It sounded similarly awesome. One day on my way to work, the inlet end of the cat let go completely, so I had an exhaust header, a downpipe, and a trumpet on the end of it.
It was SO LOUD.
I was driving down the freeway when it happened and as soon as it went from sporty loud to industrial accident loud, people started moving away from me. You know, in case I was about to asplode. Even (especially?) inside the car it was just too loud to leave broken, so I went down to Random Warehouse Muffler & Tire over lunch and got it welded back together.

It's still at that fairly pleasant - though, it has to be said, particularly considering the size of the car it's coming out of, rather obnoxious - stage at the mo, but I've got it booked in to a garage next Friday. I'd rather skip over the industrial accident stage, and go straight back to kinda crappy.

It's not quite that bad yet, thankfully. (Where I live, whistle tips are, and have always been, illegal. I'd rather not run afoul of the rozzers for the sake of that annoying a noise.)

Last fall the exhaust on our YJ let go just south of the headers. You haven't heard sex until you've heard a carbed straight six with no exhaust.
